Edinburgh Abuser Jailed as Court Imposes 10-Year Sex Offender Registration An Edinburgh man has been jailed after being convicted of domestic abuse offences at the city’s sheriff court.Steven Chappel, from Muirhouse, was sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Chambers Street on 28 January 2026 after being found guilty of breaching Section 1 of the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act and carrying out threatening and abusive behaviour.
The Sheriff told the court the offences were serious and warranted immediate custody.
Chappel was sentenced to two years in prison.
As part of the sentence, the court imposed a Non-Harassment Order, banning Chappel from contacting the victim.
The Sheriff also ruled that he will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of 10 years.
The case was described in court as a clear example of abusive behaviour that crossed criminal thresholds, with the Sheriff stressing the importance of protecting victims and sending a strong deterrent message.
