MEN FROM SCOTLAND AMONG EIGHT CHARGED WITH HISTORICAL CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OFFENCES
Two Scottish men are among eight individuals facing over 30 charges as part of an investigation into historical child sexual abuse, according to police authorities.Gwent Police officers in South Wales conducted a raid on Tuesday to apprehend the suspects from various locations including Edinburgh, Argyll and Bute, Newport, Swansea, London, Birmingham, and Lancashire.
The Crown Prosecution Service has approved 34 charges, which include 17 counts of rape, some involving multiple incidents.
Gwent Police explained that Operation Oak was launched to investigate allegations made by several women who reported being sexually abused as children between 1985 and 1996.
The charges pertain to eight victims who were minors at the time of the alleged crimes.
The accused, aged between 54 and 73, are all British nationals and are scheduled to appear before Newport Magistrates’ Court on July 24.
Among those charged is Mohammed Sheikh Abdul Hannan, aged 54, from Edinburgh.
His self-identified ethnicity is British Bangladeshi.
He faces eight charges: two counts of rape of a woman aged 16 or older, one count of indecent assault on a woman over 16, three counts of aiding and abetting the rape of a female under 16 or over 16, and two counts of conspiring to rape a woman aged 16 or over.
