A former Scots wrestler who went by the ring names Alex Cavanagh and Cav was sentenced to 18 months after attempting to arrange to meet a girl he believed was 14 years old.
During the incident in July 2023 at his home in Glasgow's Cardonald, Cavanagh engaged in a sexual conversation with an undercover police officer posing as a decoy.
The police heard that the pair initially interacted on social media app Chat Avenue, where the decoy claimed to be 14 years old and asked if it was "cool".
Cavanagh responded affirmatively and then asked if she had "done things with lads" and whether she would come for a "ride in my car", although she rebuffed his invitation.
The conversation progressed to email, where Cavanagh, using the nickname 'hornysteveUK', inquired about her sexual preferences.
Prosecutor Ross Canning stated, "Cavanagh brought it to sexual matters and asked what things she liked to do with boys." He attempted to meet the decoy on July 12 but was told she could not make it.
A further meeting was scheduled for July 26, but he was stopped by police at Partick train station and arrested.
Cavanagh admitted making a serious mistake and told the court, "I made a bad mistake, I am bang to rights, I did it, like I said it's black and white." He pleaded guilty to attempting to communicate indecently and arranging to meet a child and was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
