A dangerous sex predator from County Durham has been jailed for more than two decades after carrying out horrific attacks on teenage girls.
In January 2022, Stephen Greg Scollard, 42, drove a 15-year-old girl to a secluded area in Seaham.
Once there, he pressured the teenager for sex.
When she refused, the predator pulled her from the car and sexually assaulted her.
Police launched an immediate investigation and Scollard, of Wingate, was later charged in connection with the attack.
While he was awaiting trial, detectives uncovered further disturbing evidence.
Cleveland Police linked him to the rape of another 15-year-old girl in Hartlepool, revealing a pattern of predatory behaviour.
Scollard was remanded in custody as officers continued to build the case against him.
Although he initially denied the Seaham attack when questioned, the strength of the evidence left him with little choice.
In December 2025, he pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court.
Last month a judge handed him a 19-year prison sentence, along with an additional four-year extended licence period because of the seriousness of the crimes.
A detective involved in the case said Scollard showed a clear pattern of targeting girls he believed he could manipulate and intimidate.
