NEWCASTLE MAN JAILED FOR STALKING FORMER PARTNER IN A CAMPAIGN OF FEAR
A man named Stephen Robinson, residing in Lemington, Newcastle, has been sentenced to three years in prison for a campaign of stalking that caused his former partner to live in fear. The court heard he initially appeared charming but soon became controlling and abusive.
After their relationship ended, Robinson refused to accept the breakup and continued to contact her through various means, including turning up at her home, calling and messaging repeatedly, sending unwanted gifts, posting on social media, sexually harassing her via messages, and making threats.
The victim described feeling overwhelmed and pushed to the point of crisis, as her life was made nearly impossible during this period.
Robinson also made threats to harm her family members and their shared property, and he sent her approximately 100 letters begging for reconciliation.
His behavior escalated to blocking her vehicle’s exit, shouting, swearing, and trying to pull her out of her van, followed by pursuing her over a distance.
He was remanded in custody but remains a significant threat, with the victim expressing fears of serious violence and future contact.
Robinson pleaded guilty to stalking involving serious alarm or distress, leading to his three-year jail sentence and an indefinite restraining order.
Defence counsel, Jason Smith, highlighted Robinson's remorse and improvements in his mental health.
