24 MONTHS OF FEAR: MUM’S AGONIZING WAIT FOR JUSTICE AFTER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE NIGHTMARE
A mother’s life was torn apart after a horrific night of violence on August 19, 2023 — and it took two long years before her abuser was finally brought to justice. After enduring months of fear, pain, and sleepless nights, she finally watched as her former partner was sentenced at Taunton Crown Court in April 2025 for a string of violent and threatening offences.
“My life changed drastically that night,” she said.
“For two years my sons and I have lived in fear, waiting for justice that felt like it would never come.” The 24-month wait took a devastating toll.
Diagnosed with Complex PTSD (CPTSD), she still struggles daily with flashbacks and anxiety.
She describes taking countless days off work, terrified that he might be following her — something that had happened before.
“I was constantly looking over my shoulder,” she revealed.
“Even now, I don’t feel safe.
It’s like the fear never really goes away.” The violent relationship left not only emotional scars but physical ones too — a broken finger and cracked ribs, painful reminders of the trauma she endured.
Her abuser was eventually found guilty of multiple offences, including making threats to kill, assault by beating, affray, and property destruction, under several criminal acts spanning decades of UK law.
The sentencing in April 2025 marked the end of a harrowing chapter, but for this brave survivor, the road to healing is far from over.
“Justice took far too long,” she said quietly.
“But at least now, we can start to rebuild our lives.”
