MELKSHAM WOMAN'S BABY DIED AFTER BEING LEFT HOME ALONE
A woman whose one-year-old child died after being left alone while she was out running errands has been sentenced to two years in prison.Stacey Davis, aged 35 and residing in Melksham, Wiltshire, returned home in June 2018 to find her son unresponsive.
The boy was later declared dead at the hospital.
An inquiry was unable to determine the exact cause of his death.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker of Wiltshire Police stated that Davis’ conduct was significantly below the standard expected of her as a mother.
The Crown Prosecution Service reviewed the case and approved charges including two counts of child cruelty.
Davis, living on Caretakers Close, pleaded guilty to these charges as well as to possessing cannabis.
She was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on Thursday.
Detective Chief Inspector Walker, part of the major crime investigation team, expressed his condolences to the boy’s family.
He emphasized that Davis’ actions on the day her son passed away were deeply irresponsible, as she failed to provide the necessary love, care, or prioritize his wellbeing, which any caring parent would do.
He acknowledged that over four years have passed since the child’s death and recognized the emotional toll on all who knew him.
He praised the investigation team’s diligent efforts in thoroughly resolving a difficult and distressing case.
