SOHAIL AHMED SHOCKS GLASGOW WITH RAPE AND ABDUCTION CASE IN MARYHILL
A man identified as Sohail Ahmed, a former teacher from Glasgow, is facing serious criminal charges after a series of disturbing incidents involving two women he had recently met.The allegations include kidnapping, sexual assault, and sending indecent communications, with the potential for a life sentence if convicted of the most severe charges.
Ahmed, aged 51, was found guilty in the High Court in Glasgow of two counts of abduction and rape, as well as of sending inappropriate and indecent messages.
The court heard that his actions have left his victims deeply traumatized, with one woman even being hidden under his bed while police arrived at his flat in the Maryhill area of Glasgow.
The first assault occurred just days before Christmas in 2022.
The victim, a 41-year-old escort, had initially agreed to visit Ahmed’s flat after he contacted her online.
During the trial, her lawyer, Tony Lenehan KC, questioned Ahmed about her ability to leave the premises freely.
Ahmed responded that she was free to leave at any time, asserting that she was not detained.
However, prosecutors painted a different picture.
They stated that Ahmed had forcibly prevented her from leaving, snatched her handbag, and locked the door of his flat.
The assault took place across various rooms within the property.
The woman was forced onto a bed, pinned down, and raped after her trousers were pulled off.
The incident was captured on Ring doorbell footage, which showed her fleeing the flat in a distressed state, crying and wailing, with a child nearby asking, “Why is that lady crying?” During the trial, Ahmed claimed that the woman had come to his flat voluntarily, had taken cocaine while there, and had consensual sex with him.
He also alleged that she was upset because she was unable to take a laptop and accused her of attempting to steal items from his home, including belongings from his daughter’s wedding.
He insisted that her frustration was not related to any non-consensual act.
The second incident took place on August 7, 2023, at Ahmed’s third-floor flat.
The victim, a 28-year-old woman, was a stranger he had approached near Glasgow Central Station, exchanging friendly smiles before engaging her in conversation.
Ahmed admitted that he asked her, “Do you want to disappear?” and claimed she agreed to go with him to his flat.
Prosecutors detailed that, once inside, Ahmed again detained her against her will, locking her in the property.
He reportedly spiked her drink with a substance, which rendered her unconscious, and then proceeded to sexually assault her.
Despite Ahmed’s claims that she was happy and that they spent several hours together, DNA evidence strongly suggested that he had engaged in sexual activity with her.
When questioned about drugging her, Ahmed denied tampering with her drink.
Throughout the trial, Ahmed maintained that he did not have sex with the woman, despite the evidence pointing to the contrary.
The court has ordered a full risk assessment to determine whether he should be subjected to a lifelong restriction order, reflecting the prosecutors’ view of his dangerousness.
Ahmed remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court next month for sentencing proceedings.
—————————————————————————————————— UPDATE 17-12-2025 —————————————————————————————————— A former teacher who hid an unconscious woman under a bed after abducting and raping her has been made subject to an Order of Lifelong Restriction.
He must serve a minimum punishment part of nine years in custody before he can be considered for release by the Parole Board.
Sohail Ahmed, also known as Soheel, was found guilty of abducting and violently raping two vulnerable women he had just met at his home in Glasgow’s Maryhill following a trial at the High Court.
The 52-year-old first struck days before Christmas 2022, having already been charged for sending sexually indecent texts and voicemails to an osteopath.
The second attack occurred while he was on two bail orders.
Ahmed abducted his first victim at the rubbish-strewn flat in December 2022, where he raped her and tried to prevent her from leaving.
The court heard how the woman had agreed to visit married Ahmed’s flat after he contacted her online.
The ex-geography and modern studies teacher admitted to taking cocaine and having consensual sex with the woman.
He then stopped the woman from leaving, snatching her handbag and locking the door.
Prosecutors said he told her: “You are not going anywhere”, and started “howling” like a wolf and beating his chest.
He then raped the woman before she was captured on Ring doorbell footage, eventually fleeing “wailing, in a state of unhappiness”.
He subjected his second victim, a stranger whom he met in Glasgow Central Station, to the same ordeal in August 2023.
The court heard he locked this woman in the property and held her against her will.
He then spiked her drink with a “substance” before taking advantage to rape the woman, who ended up unconscious, the court heard.
Prosecutors said Ahmed wrapped the naked and unconscious woman in a duvet before stuffing her under a bed.
He then piled sheets and other items on top to try and conceal her even further.
Police were contacted after the woman’s friend became concerned for her whereabouts.
Ahmed initially denied seeing the woman and was actively trying to hide her within the property.
The flat was described as a “chaotic scene, in a state of severe disarray, with rubbish piled high from floor to ceiling”.
In his evidence, he claimed the woman had begged him not to answer the door as she had a warrant out for her arrest.
Ahmed insisted she had got herself tangled in the duvet after falling off the bed as he answered the door.
He told the court: “It was as if she was disappearing like a magic trick – her whole body was slipping through a gap, and the quilt was under her body.
She slid off perfectly.” The court heard police discovered the naked woman so deeply unconscious that they initially thought she was dead.
Ahmed, who was also found guilty of attempting to defeat the ends of justice and sending sexually indecent communications to a third woman, has been ordered to serve nine years in jail before he can be considered for release.
The judge also made him subject to an Order of Lifelong Restriction.
His name has been added to the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Lord Harrower said the assessment had found Ahmed to have “personality traits consistent with narcissism and psychopathy”.
Non-harassment orders, banning Ahmed from contacting or attempting to contact any of the women, were also granted for an indefinite period.
