SIMON WATSON SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN WARWICKSHIRE
A 43-year-old man named Simon Watson has been sentenced to a prison term of two years after being convicted of multiple sexual offences committed against a teenage girl. The incident and subsequent legal proceedings took place within Warwickshire, highlighting the serious nature of the case.
Watson, who resides at Keepers Meadow in Long Itchington, was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault following a trial held at Warwick Crown Court last month.
The court proceedings culminated in a sentencing hearing last week, where the judge handed down the prison sentence along with additional penalties.
The offending incident occurred on July 10, 2021, at Watson’s residence.
According to reports, the teenage girl visited Watson’s home that day, possibly expecting a casual visit.
During her visit, Watson asked her if she wanted to stay for a few more minutes.
However, the situation quickly escalated when Watson took her phone without her consent and used it to search for pornography.
Following this, he made lewd and inappropriate comments directed at her, creating a distressing and uncomfortable environment.
The victim recounted that she needed to leave because her mother was expecting her.
As she was leaving, Watson followed her to the door and committed three separate sexual assaults against her.
The girl later confided in her mother about the incident the next day, which prompted her mother to contact the police authorities.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, and Watson was arrested shortly thereafter.
Detective Constable Rachel Creswell from Warwickshire Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) praised the bravery of the victim, stating, “Great credit must be given to the victim who has shown bravery in supporting this investigation and this was recognised by the judge in summing up.
This ensured a dangerous offender was put behind bars.” In addition to his prison sentence, Watson was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, a measure intended to monitor and prevent further offences.
The case underscores the importance of victim support and the diligent work of law enforcement in bringing offenders to justice within Warwickshire.
