WARWICKSHIRE MAN SENTENCED FOR LIFE AFTER KILLING WIFE IN SPAIN
Allen Heard, a 63-year-old man previously residing in Warwickshire, has received a life sentence after being convicted of murdering his wife, Patricia Heard. The court was informed that Heard, who is a retired Royal Navy serviceman, went to significant lengths to hide the crime for more than two years before finally confessing to his children and sister-in-law.
The presiding judge, Mrs.
Justice Rafferty, mandated that he serve a minimum of 11 years before becoming eligible for parole.
The incident took place in Oliva, close to Valencia, where Heard admitted to killing Patricia using a rope after an argument at their residence in July 2006.
Prosecutor Michael Burrows QC explained that Heard and his wife, after retiring early and moving to Spain, celebrated Patricia’s 58th birthday at a local bar before the tragedy.
The court heard that during a heated dispute, Heard assaulted his wife, and in a police confession made last August, he stated that she accused him of infidelity and demanded access to his email passwords, which led to him losing his temper.
He also admitted to traveling to a mountainous area—an area she cherished—to bury her body.
Despite the circumstances, Heard used Patricia’s mobile phone three days after her death to send text messages from her number to his and her sister’s phones.
Family members, including their son Mark—who distributed leaflets and participated in radio appeals—were involved in the investigation, ultimately resulting in Heard’s arrest at East Midlands Airport in July of the previous year.
Initially denying any involvement, Heard was released on bail but later confessed to the murder during police interviews a month after his arrest.
Over the weekend of August 2nd and 3rd, he admitted to his children and Patricia’s sister that he had committed the act following an argument.
The court noted that Heard drove to a mountainous area, a location dear to his wife, for the purpose of burying her body.
This case stands as a tragic example of domestic homicide, with Heard now serving a life sentence for his actions.
