A disturbing case of voyeurism has come to light involving Simon Garnett, a resident of Warwickshire, who secretly installed a spy camera in his shower to record unsuspecting guests.The unsettling discovery was made when one of Garnett’s victims noticed unusual LED lights embedded in a clock radio while taking a shower at his property on St Fremund Way.
Concerned by the lights, the guest examined the device more closely and was horrified to find footage captured by the hidden camera.
The victim, upon viewing the recordings, recognized himself showering and also identified several other individuals who had been filmed on different occasions.
The shock and violation of privacy prompted the victim to flee Garnett’s house but was later persuaded to return under the pretense of jointly destroying the memory card containing the footage.
Later that evening, the victim watched the recordings in detail and was appalled to see himself and others in vulnerable moments.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, he immediately contacted the police, leading to an investigation by law enforcement authorities.
The police quickly identified three additional victims who had been secretly filmed by Garnett.
During police interviews, Garnett refused to answer most questions, replying with a simple 'no comment.' Garnett faced serious charges, including eight counts of voyeurism.
His case was brought before Warwick Crown Court, where on Monday, September 30, he was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
The case has been described as 'appalling' by Detective Constable Claire Scott, who praised the bravery of the victims in coming forward and helping to bring Garnett to justice.
DC Scott emphasized that Garnett attempted to diminish the gravity of his actions by dismissing them as a 'cheap thrill' and a form of voyeurism.
She condemned his behavior as a reprehensible breach of trust, especially considering he targeted friends and acquaintances.
The court’s decision to impose a custodial sentence was seen as a necessary step in addressing the gravity of his crimes.
