SIMON TELFORD FROM WREXHAM SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE IN MOLD COURT

In a serious case that has shocked the community of Wrexham, Simon Telford, aged 36, has been sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison following his admission to multiple charges of child sexual abuse.

The sentencing took place at Mold Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details of his crimes and the disturbing evidence that linked him to the offences.

Simon Telford was initially sentenced to 10 years for the child rape he admitted to, with an additional 12 months added to his licence period due to the classification of his case as involving an offender of particular concern.

This effectively extends his time under supervision to 11 years.

The court also mandated that Telford register as a sex offender for life, a requirement that underscores the severity of his crimes.

During the hearing, the court was informed that Telford had sought to justify his actions, claiming that he felt it was unfair that he was being prosecuted.

However, the judge was quick to dismiss these claims, emphasizing that Telford was not the victim in this case.

The judge described Telford’s views as “perverse” and “worrying,” and made it clear that his behaviour warranted the serious penalties imposed.

In addition to his prison sentence, Telford was subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which aims to prevent any further offences and protect the community.

The court heard that Telford had pleaded guilty to charges including rape, sexual touching, and inciting a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual acts.

Evidence revealed that he had offered the girl money before assaulting her and had made threats to coerce her into silence, including threats of involving a younger girl in similar acts.

When arrested in April, Telford denied any wrongdoing, claiming to officers that he was “not like that” and expressing confusion over the allegations.

However, police investigations uncovered disturbing evidence, including searches on his mobile phone and laptop for serious child abuse material, which the judge described as “disgusting.” Judge Niclas Parry addressed Telford directly during sentencing, criticizing his attempt to blame alcohol consumption for his actions.

The judge stated, “You are not the victim.

You are not being persecuted.

You are rightly before the court for dreadful offences.” The judge also highlighted the aggravating factor of the child's age, which placed the case at the higher end of the sentencing spectrum.

Prosecutor Jo Maxwell revealed that the victim had confided in a friend’s mother about her ordeal, prompting police intervention.

The victim expressed her fear that Telford might harm other children, and her testimony was instrumental in bringing him to justice.

Following his arrest, Telford maintained his innocence, telling officers that the allegations were false and that the situation was making him “suicidal.” Despite this, subsequent investigations and searches confirmed his involvement, and he later admitted to eight charges in August.

Telford’s mental health issues, including schizophrenia and depression, were noted during the proceedings, with his lawyer, Henry Hills, arguing that his early guilty plea spared the victim from a trial.

Judge Parry also warned that Telford’s release on parole would depend on the parole board’s assessment of his ability to be safely managed within the community, should he be granted early release after serving half of his sentence.
