MAN PUSHED EX DOWN STAIRS AFTER DEMANDING TO CHECK HER PHONE
A man from Gateshead has received a 12-month community order after assaulting his former partner by pushing her down a staircase and persistently harassing her with numerous messages and visits.
Simon Hudson, aged 41 and residing on Dunlin Close in Ryton, was at his ex-partner’s residence in North Tyneside in October 2024.
During his visit, he demanded access to her phone.
After reviewing her messages, he went to the bathroom, and when she followed in an attempt to retrieve her phone, he pushed her in the chest with both hands, causing her to fall down the stairs.
Instead of assisting her, Hudson purportedly told her “you’re fine” and attempted to help her up, the court was told.
The victim sustained bruising on her back but was too frightened to report the incident immediately.
In the weeks that followed, Hudson repeatedly contacted her via messages and calls, and was caught on doorbell footage repeatedly visiting her home.
At Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, Hudson admitted to charges of assault by beating and harassment.
He was sentenced to a one-year community order, ordered to pay £1,200 in compensation, a £114 court surcharge, and was given a two-year restraining order.
Hudson’s solicitor stated that he is a plasterer who has “moved on” from the relationship and acknowledged it should have ended sooner.
