SIMON HARRINGTON FROM SUFFOLK SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULTS AGAINST CHILDREN

A man aged 56, identified as Simon Harrington and residing in Brandon, Suffolk, has been handed a substantial prison sentence of 16 years following his conviction on multiple serious charges involving sexual offenses. The sentencing took place at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, 27 September, marking the culmination of a lengthy legal process that uncovered disturbing details about his criminal conduct.

Harrington faced a total of 13 allegations, which included four counts of raping a woman, three counts of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 through penetration, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, and two counts of indecent assault against a child under 13. Throughout the trial, Harrington maintained his innocence, denying all charges brought against him.

Following a rigorous 10-day trial, the jury reached a verdict on Monday, 9 September. Harrington was found guilty of seven of the charges, which included two counts of raping a woman, one count of sexual assault of a child under 13 by penetration, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, one count of sexual activity with a child, and one count of indecent assault. The court, however, acquitted him of the remaining six charges, which means he was not convicted on those counts.

The crimes for which Harrington was convicted span over a period of approximately two decades, dating back to the 1990s. The offenses involved three different victims, highlighting a pattern of disturbing and predatory behavior that has caused significant harm and distress.

Detective Constable Jasmine Mulley, who is part of the West Safeguarding Investigation Unit, expressed her condemnation of Harrington’s actions. She described the crimes as among the most heinous her team has investigated, emphasizing the severity and depravity of the offenses. Constable Mulley also praised the victims for their courage and resilience in coming forward to report the crimes, acknowledging their bravery in working with law enforcement to ensure that Harrington faced justice.

Harrington’s sentencing reflects the gravity of his offenses and the impact on his victims. The lengthy prison term aims to serve justice and provide some measure of closure for those affected by his actions.
