SIMON FUUGE FROM LLANELLI SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE INVOLVING TEEN ON FAKE FACEBOOK PROFILE IN SWANSEA
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Llanelli and the surrounding areas, Simon Fuge, a man in his 30s, was found guilty of engaging in a series of predatory and manipulative acts involving a young schoolboy.The offences, which took place primarily in Swansea, involved the use of a fabricated online persona to lure the minor into a web of deception and sexual exploitation.
It all began when Fuge created a fake Facebook profile under the guise of a teenage girl named Danni, who appeared to be between 16 and 18 years old.
The profile was used to initiate contact with a 14-year-old boy, who was a student at a local school.
The boy and the fictitious Danni started chatting via Facebook Messenger, and after some time, they agreed to meet in person.
However, Danni failed to show up for the scheduled meeting, raising initial concerns.
Subsequently, Danni contacted the boy again, claiming she had a friend living nearby who could meet him.
This friend was none other than Fuge himself, who was 37 years old at the time.
The boy was directed to Fuge’s residence at 37 Marine Street in Llanelli, where he was met by Fuge, who pretended to be a friend of Danni.
The court heard that the two spent the afternoon playing computer games to pass the time until Danni’s supposed arrival, which never materialized.
Over the following weeks, Fuge and the boy continued their online communication, primarily through Snapchat.
They also met several times in person, engaging in activities such as playing computer games, going to the cinema, and shopping in Swansea, where Fuge bought the boy a new coat.
During these interactions, Fuge began making sexual suggestions to the boy, gradually escalating his advances.
At one point, Fuge pretended to receive text messages from Danni, indicating she wanted to see a video of them performing sexual acts together.
Throughout this period, Fuge maintained the facade that Danni was interested in a romantic relationship with the boy, continuing to message him on Facebook as if she were the girl.
On two separate occasions, while alone with the boy, Fuge performed sexual acts on him, further compounding the trauma inflicted.
The situation came to light after the boy spent a night at Fuge’s house, during which he was given alcohol.
Although no sexual activity occurred that night, the boy confided in a school friend about the sleepover, who then reported the incident to a teacher.
This chain of events prompted authorities to investigate.
Fuge was arrested at his home, which he shared with his mother.
Initially, he denied any sexual contact with the boy.
However, police investigations quickly uncovered evidence linking Fuge to the online accounts used to communicate with the victim.
By requesting data from Facebook and internet service providers, officers identified the computer and Wi-Fi router used to post as the “Danni” profile, which was registered to Fuge’s postcode.
Further examination of Fuge’s online activity revealed that the Facebook profile had been used to contact multiple individuals, not solely the victim.
Despite the Snapchat messages being inaccessible, the evidence was sufficient to establish Fuge’s guilt.
He was charged with two counts of inciting a child to engage in penetrative sexual activity.
During the court proceedings, the young victim provided an impact statement, revealing that he had been profoundly affected by the ordeal.
He expressed that he had become less social, was wary of online interactions, and felt that he had not been himself since the incident.
Judge Paul Thomas QC addressed Fuge directly, condemning his actions as psychologically damaging.
The judge noted that Fuge had “badgered” the boy and “wore him down psychologically,” highlighting that Fuge’s sheltered and possibly stifled upbringing had contributed to his inappropriate behavior.
Fuge was sentenced to a total of four and a half years in prison.
He will serve half of that term before being eligible for release on licence.
Additionally, he was subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, restricting his internet use and access to children.
Fuge will also be registered as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further harm.
