WELSH PUPPY FARMER JOHN GIBBON, PAID WITH A CAUTION, MADE £68,000 FROM BREEDING DOGS
The Gibbons were told they needed a licence to breed dogs, and Nia Gibbon said she was in the process of applying for one.
Despite initial advice and a formal improvement notice from officers, conditions at the farm remained very poor.
The Gibbons admitted they had been breeding dogs at the farm and had been selling them online via adverts.
Both were subsequently charged although the case against Nia Gibbon was discontinued in exchange for her father’s guilty plea and she was let off with a caution instead.
John Gibbon pleaded guilty to breeding dogs without a licence between January 2019 and May 2022.
It was estimated that he had made around £68,000 in three years of trading though the precise number of dogs he had bred and sold could not be determined.
Sentencing included a 12-month conditional discharge, a £10,000 confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act, payable within three months or face six months in prison, and an order to pay £15,000 in prosecution costs to Carmarthenshire Council, payable at £250 per month over five years.
