SIMON DAVIS, BEDWORTH BREEDER, CONVICTED FOR CRUELTY AND EAR CROPPING IN 2020
Simon James Davis, born on 25 January 1985 and residing on Acacia Crescent, Bedworth CV12, was convicted in 2020 for illegally cropping American Bulldog puppies' ears.
Operating under the trading name Lions Lair Kennels, Davis admitted to performing painful cosmetic procedures on seven puppies by cropping their ears with razor blades, before selling them to celebrity clients for thousands of pounds.
Davis was arrested on 30 January 2019 when the RSPCA and Warwickshire Police executed a joint raid at his property.
During the operation, authorities discovered seven kennels in a converted garage built in Davis's back garden, which housed eight American Bulldogs.
Evidence collected included photographs documenting the before-and-after state of the dogs, as well as medical equipment such as syringes, razor blades, and forceps seized from both Davis's residence and his mother Sheena Davis’s home at 17 Chelsey Road, Coventry CV2 1DG.
At her house, authorities found an additional nine American Bulldogs, including two pregnant females and six with cropped ears.
The RSPCA has urged the public never to purchase dogs with cropped ears and has taken seven of the affected dogs into care to be re-homed.
In sentencing, Davis received 18 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to complete 160 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, he was fined and ordered to pay costs totaling £10,973.
He faces a 15-year ban on owning or dealing in dogs.
This case was reported by outlets including ITV News and the Daily Mail.
Despite his ban, Davis’s Lions Lair Kennels Instagram account remains active as of late 2022: https://www.instagram.com/lionslairkennels/.
