SHAUN WILLIAMS SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON IN WIGAN FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In February 2008, a man convicted of multiple child sex offences, some dating back over three decades, was sentenced to prison.
Shaun Trevor Williams, 49, formerly residing in Hindley, Wigan, received a 15-year prison term and was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
Williams was found guilty after a trial at Liverpool Crown Court last month on three counts of raping a girl under 16, four counts of indecent assault, three counts of gross indecency, and two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
The offences date back to 1973.
Extradited from Extremadura, Spain, Williams will serve a minimum of 7 years and 162 days before being eligible for parole.
Following his release, he will remain on licence for life.
Detective Constable Cath Edwards of Greater Manchester Police’s child protection unit commented on the case: “The result highlights the importance of coming forward to police to report incidents of sexual abuse, no matter how long ago they may have taken place.”
