DOG ABUSER SENTENCED FOR NEGLECT AND CAUSING PAIN IN GREATER MANCHESTER
Reardon, a career criminal, was found to have caused unnecessary suffering to his German Shepherd, Mitzi. The court heard Reardon had last taken Mitzi to the vets in November 2024 but declined medication due to the cost.
He then failed to attend a follow-up appointment.
Further welfare concerns led police and the RSPCA to intervene, revealing that the dog had been denied further veterinary attention.
Mitzi was seized and treated extensively for ear disease, with her ear canals showing significant swelling, reddening, and a perforated eardrum.
Veterinarians concluded she would have suffered for at least three months without pain relief.
Reardon claimed he tried treating her with olive oil and vinegar, and that he stopped going to the vet because he was tired of paying.
The court sentenced him to three months in jail, with a 10-year ban (expires January 2036).
The court also made a deprivation order for Mitzi, who remains in RSPCA care.
