GLASGOW MAN SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR RAPING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A sex predator who raped a 14-year-old girl after giving her drink and drugs has been sentenced to seven years in jail.Shaun Miller, 33, who was then living in Glasgow's Baillieston, was convicted of raping the girl after inviting her and her friends back to his flat in Bridgeton in December 2019.Miller was 28 at the time, exactly double the age of the victim.The court heard that Miller had followed the victim after she and her friends were out in the Gorbals area, then bought alcohol for them from a local Spar shop.
Miller asked them back to his flat, where he provided cocaine, and he began to ‘pester’ the girl, who felt ‘distinctly uncomfortable’.
Miller persuaded her to stay with the promise of a taxi later to take her and a friend home.
However, the taxi turned back after it was revealed he had not arranged payment.
She eventually fell asleep at his flat, during which he carried out the sex attack.
The girl awoke to find him pulling her toward him and raping her.
The court heard Miller deny the charge, claiming that the girl had ‘spontaneously initiated’ sexual activity.
Judge Tony Kelly, who sentenced Miller, also ordered he be supervised for a further two years after his release due to the risk he poses.
Miller, now 33, had watched the proceedings via video link from prison.
The judge condemned his behavior, stating: 'I assess your culpability as significant.
There was a considerable age gap between you and her.
You were 28, she was 14.' The court designated Miller a high risk of similar offending and placed him on the sex offenders register indefinitely, while also banning contact with the victim.
After sentencing, Miller was seen on court televisions standing and raising his middle fingers at the camera.
The girl was out with friends that night in the Gorbals and was persuaded by Miller to come back to his flat.
During her sleep, he committed the assault.
The sentencing reflects the court's view of the severity of his actions and the significant danger he represents.
