SHAUN HEWER SENTENCED IN PORTSMOUTH FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF EIGHT-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In May 2021, Shaun Hewer, aged 63, was convicted and jailed for abusing an eight-year-old girl.
The court heard how Hewer assaulted the young girl, destroying her confidence and leaving her feeling shy, lacking self-assurance, and mistrustful of others.
Jurors at Portsmouth Crown Court found Hewer guilty of two sexual assault charges after evidence showed he touched and kissed the child.
The child's mother remarked, ‘She was always such a shy girl and only felt she could trust a few people.
She was beginning to come out of her shell.’ Hewer, of Ann’s Hill Road in Gosport, was only stopped when a woman happened to witness his actions.
Reflecting on the incident, the mother said, ‘When all this started, every time I shut my eyes all I could see was his face and what he was doing.’ Judge Tim Mousley QC stated that Hewer believed he had ‘got her on her own’ during the assault.
The judge also acknowledged the woman who intervened, describing her as ‘significantly distressed’ by witnessing the abuse, but she acted swiftly to prevent further harm.
Hewer was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, with the judge asserting, ‘Your intention was clear, you were intent on abusing her.’
