MAN, 24, JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE OFFENCES IN GOSPORT AND PETERSFIELD
Callum Hornby, aged 24 and residing on Grange Road in Petersfield, appeared before Winchester Crown Court on Friday, September 12, for sentencing after admitting to a series of offenses committed against a woman spanning from October 8, 2023, to September 11, 2024.The offences Hornby admitted to include an assault causing actual bodily harm on October 8, 2023, intentional strangulation on Grange Road in Petersfield on February 16, 2024, another assault causing actual bodily harm on the same day and location, a beating on March 9, 2024, and further occasions between May 31 and July 1, 2024, where he caused bodily harm.
Additional charges involve intentional strangulation at an address in Hanbidge Walk, Gosport, on August 24, 2024, an assault causing bodily harm at the same address on August 25, 2024, and making threats to kill at Hanbidge Walk on September 11, 2024.
During the court hearing, the woman affected by Hornby's actions described the profound impact on her life.
She expressed that the abuse had severely damaged her mental health, confidence, and relationships with family and friends.
She described her experience as traumatic, feeling she might never fully recover, and stated she feels unrecognizable from her former self.
The woman recounted that Hornby’s behaviours constant fear, emotional manipulation, blackmail, and violent assaults had left her walking on eggshells and at her lowest point.
She emphasised that her suffering was unprecedented, involving threats, emotional and physical violence, which she described as a slow, debilitating illness.
She further explained that the emotional and physical exhaustion forced her to leave her job and halt her studies, and she expressed hope for eventual recovery, though she believed this would take many years.
She also conveyed a wish that she had never met Hornby.
DC Angela Smith-Jones commented on the case, stating, “I am very glad to see Hornby face justice for his actions and I believe this result reflects the seriousness with which we treat violence against women and girls.
“I would like to commend the victim for her strength and courage, both in coming forward to report and throughout the investigation and court process.
“The abuse she has endured at the hands of Hornby is abhorrent and I hope that seeing him put behind bars will help her on her road to recovering and rebuilding her life.
“Domestic abuse and violence has a devastating and long-lasting impact on those affected, and we will make every effort to target perpetrators and see them face the consequences of their actions.”
