NORTON MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT
A man named Shane Thomas, aged 34, from Crook Crescent in Norton, was involved in a severe domestic assault on his partner. The incident took place on October 2 of the previous year, following a dispute where Thomas was angry that his girlfriend had returned home after a night out.
He initially warned her not to come into the bedroom for kisses and cuddles before grabbing her by the jaw, shouting, and then repeatedly punching her in the face and body.
The victim reported being punched approximately 30 times, with Thomas threatening to kill her and knocking her to the floor.
She sustained cuts with blood dripping from her head.
Thomas then locked the front door, snapped the key, trapping her inside, and spat at her when she threatened to call the police.
He dragged her around the house by her arm and continued his physical assault.
During the attack, Thomas also pulled a door off its hinges, damaged a bike, a TV, and a bed.
The woman managed to escape by jumping out of an upstairs window and was found outside with a broken leg, in her pyjamas.
Her mother, who was with her, saw her injured and covered in blood.
The woman was hospitalized for a plate inserted into her leg and extensive bruising.
The court heard that the couple had been together for ten months, and the aftermath was witnessed by her young son and mother.
Shane Thomas pleaded guilty to section 20 assault causing grievous bodily harm, criminal damage, and robbery.
The judge described his conduct as 'truly disgraceful and extended violent conduct' and sentenced him to four years and ten months in prison.
A restraining order was also imposed, preventing him from contacting his ex-girlfriend for ten years.
