BOYFRIEND WHO BIT OFF PARTNER'S EAR JAILED FOR FOUR YEARS IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
Scott Cleverley, a 33-year-old father of three from Endon Road, Norton, was sentenced to four years in prison after physically assaulting his partner during their tumultuous relationship. The court was told that Cleverley exhibited controlling and coercive behaviors, leaving his victim feeling devalued.
The most severe incident involved him biting her earlobe, which resulted in a need for surgical repair.
Prosecutor Rhia Abukhalil explained that the couple had been together since 2020, initially describing their relationship as good until his aggression escalated after several months.
Cleverley has a history of substance misuse, particularly with cannabis, which he states made him paranoid and anxious, and he attributes his violent behavior to this.
The judge noted that on October 31, 2021, after an argument about her refusing his friend's visit, Cleverley lost his temper and bit her, causing her earlobe to be partly severed.
As part of his sentence, he was issued a restraining order preventing contact with his ex-partner for five years.
The court also heard he had strangled her, sent abusive messages, and made her feel worthless, with one incident witnessed by her son.
Judge Graeme Smith described his actions as coercive and violent, highlighting the serious physical and emotional injuries caused.
Cleverley acknowledged his substance issues and expressed sincere remorse, stating he has now ceased drug use and improved his behavior.
