SOUTHAMPTON MAN JAILED AFTER VIOLENT ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER
A Southampton man named Shane Kean was convicted of assaulting his ex-partner by repeatedly kicking her in the face while she was on the floor, leaving her frightened for her life.According to the prosecution, Gordon Ross, Kean grabbed his victim by her hair and pulled her to the ground, then kicked her in the face eight times.
Kean, 22, from Orchard Lane, told the court, "You need to be with me, or I will do something stupid to you." The attack resulted in her sustaining a bloody and swollen lip, a cut on her nose, and marks on the left side of her face.
She had previously called the police multiple times due to Kean’s violent behavior.
After the assault, Kean sent her abusive calls and messages—she received 18 calls from an unknown number and five from Kean’s mother’s phone, including one where he threatened, "I am going to come round to yours and you are going to be a dead woman." The victim expressed fear that Kean would be angry at her for prosecuting him.
Kean pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and harassment, though he admitted only to kicking her fewer than eight times.
Judge Nicholas Rowland sentenced him to 15 months in jail and imposed a three-year restraining order.
Kean’s defense attorney, Gaylene Coles, expressed that he felt ashamed and guilty, and suggested he could be rehabilitated.
