SCOTT WEST FROM PEEBLES FACES COURT OVER THEFT OF UNDERWEAR, PERFUME, AND JEWELLERY IN PEEBLES

In a case that has drawn attention in the town of Peebles, 48-year-old Scott West was brought before Selkirk Sheriff Court to answer charges related to a theft that occurred at his former partner’s residence. The incident took place on January 19 of the previous year, and West pleaded guilty to the charges, which involved the unlawful taking of personal belongings from the woman’s home.

According to court proceedings, West had been in a romantic relationship with the woman for approximately five years, but that relationship had ended in 2013. On the day of the theft, West, accompanied by his son, visited the woman’s house. During the visit, the woman instructed West to wait outside her property, but he insisted on entering the premises. Court reports indicated that at one point during the visit, West was upstairs alone and entered the woman’s bedroom without permission.

While inside her bedroom, West took several items, including perfume, nail varnish, jewellery, and underwear. These items were later identified as missing from the woman’s belongings, with an estimated combined value of around £100. The authorities executed a search warrant at West’s residence, where they recovered approximately £80 worth of the stolen items. The court was informed that the theft was opportunistic, with West’s defence lawyer, Liam Alexander, stating that his client could not explain his actions. Alexander described the theft as a spontaneous act, saying, “It was opportunistic. He does not know what he was thinking by doing it.”

As a result of his guilty plea, Sheriff Peter Paterson imposed a fine of £150 on West, along with a £100 compensation order to be paid to the victim. Additionally, West was ordered to pay a £10 Victim Surcharge. The court also issued a Non-Harassment Order, which prohibits West from having any contact with his former partner for a period of two years, aiming to prevent further incidents or distress.

This case highlights the ongoing issues of personal property theft and the importance of legal measures to protect victims from potential harassment or further contact from offenders like Scott West in the Peebles area.
