SERIAL ABUSER JAILED FOR WATERBOARDING PARTNER
A man responsible for waterboarding his partner during a viewing of Friends has received a prison sentence of 50 months.Scott O'Sullivan attempted to drown the woman by placing a towel over her face and pouring water onto it.
During court proceedings, it was revealed that O'Sullivan had targeted his partner as part of a prolonged six-year pattern of abusive behavior.
The 40-year-old was convicted at Glasgow Sheriff Court of assault causing serious injury and permanent disfigurement.
The court also heard that he had assaulted another woman between August 2012 and May 2014.
O'Sullivan, who resides in Drumchapel, was additionally found guilty of shoving the woman’s face into a mirror and stabbing her hand with a knife.
The crimes occurred between 2004 and 2010 across various properties in Glasgow.
Sheriff Patrick Hughes sentenced him to a five-year extended sentence, which includes supervision after his release from prison.
The sheriff emphasised the severity of the crimes, noting the serious and extreme nature of the charges, particularly highlighting the asphyxiation incident as a concern.
The waterboarding event reportedly happened in 2004 or 2005, while the woman was relaxing on her sofa watching an episode of Friends.
She told police that O'Sullivan came up behind her with a wet towel, placing it over her face, then pulled her head back and poured water onto her, attempting to drown her.
She described feeling unable to breathe and nearly losing consciousness.
In addition to his prison term, O'Sullivan was issued a 10-year non-harassment order prohibiting contact with both women involved.
