OFFENDER SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND HARASSMENT

A man named Scott McGuffie has been convicted of multiple abusive behaviors.

He subjected his pregnant ex-girlfriend to a campaign of harassment including lurking outside her house in the dead of night and bombarding her with phone calls.

He also sent an intimate video of himself and his ex to her new partner via WhatsApp, and called her 61 times over nine days.

He made threats to harm her unborn child, stating that "You're going to get jumped," and insulting her as a mother.

McGuffie, who has a history of 17 previous convictions for 16 offences including assaulting emergency workers and criminal damage, admitted to disclosing private sexual images with intent to cause distress and breaching a non-molestation order.

During the court hearing, he said, "I'm sitting in a courtroom full of lies" and claimed he only sent the video because she told him to do it.

The judge described him as a 'selfish and abusive by nature' man with an 'instinct to resort to violence and intimidation.' The court sentenced McGuffie to three years in prison and imposed a lifelong restraining order.

The judge highlighted that their relationship was turbulent and that she had been the victim of prolonged abuse and violence.

McGuffie was said to shake his head in the dock during proceedings, which reflected his attitude towards his crimes.
