MAN WHO MURDERED HIS GRANDMOTHER IN FORRES JAILED FOR LIFE
Scott McCulloch, aged 26, was convicted of killing his 84-year-old grandmother, Patricia Bitters, during an alcohol-fueled assault at her home in Moray last August. The assault consisted of repeated punches and stamping, which resulted in her passing away six days later in hospital.
During the judicial process, Lord Beckett sentenced McCulloch to a minimum of 15 years in prison before he could seek parole.
It was disclosed that McCulloch had been living with his grandmother for approximately five years and that he consumed a significant amount of alcohol on the day of the attack.
Neighbors reported hearing shouting and disturbances coming from her bungalow at the time.
McCulloch confessed to the killing, saying, 'I have killed my granny.
I have killed my granny.
I didn't mean to do it.' The defense stated that he was 'profoundly sorry' and had taken care of his grandmother despite their conflicts.
Prosecutor David Green described the incident as 'appallingly violent,' highlighting that McCulloch’s assault on his elderly grandmother was savage and led to her death, causing devastation to her family.
The judge emphasized the brutality involved after heavy drinking, and the case was characterized as an act of domestic homicide at the time of sentencing.
