SCOTT GLOVER FROM CAMBORNE SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN CORNWALL

In December 2018, a chilling case unfolded at Truro Crown Court involving Scott Glover, a 43-year-old man from the Camborne area, who was convicted of a series of heinous crimes against a young girl under the age of 16. The court heard that Glover subjected his victim to a prolonged and systematic campaign of sexual abuse, which included multiple instances of assault, exploitation, and rape over an extended period.

The charges brought against Glover were extensive, initially comprising ten counts of sexual assault, twelve counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child to participate in sexual acts, six counts of rape, and nine additional instances of sexual activity with a minor. The total number of charges summed up to 38, reflecting the severity and duration of his crimes. Glover, who was employed at a garage in Helston, vehemently denied all allegations, claiming that the accusations were “utterly false.”

The trial, which took place last week, saw a jury deliberate for six and a half hours before returning their verdicts on Tuesday, December 13. Glover was found guilty of 37 out of the 38 charges, with the jury acquitting him of one of the rape counts. The court was told that the victim, who was initially too frightened to speak out, eventually confided in a friend and later approached her school’s student liaison officer. The case was then handed over to the police, leading to Glover’s arrest and subsequent trial.

During the proceedings, prosecutor Sean Brunton, QC, described the victim’s mental state, revealing that she “on occasions considered killing herself” due to the trauma she endured. Her testimony was described as detailed and lengthy, with her speaking for nearly two hours to recount the abuse she suffered. The girl’s account painted a disturbing picture of long-term exploitation, which included Glover forcing her to wear “sexy underwear,” use a vibrator for his gratification, and watch adult pornography. The abuse escalated to sexual assault and rape, with Glover sometimes wearing a condom during the assaults. Notably, the victim, who was only 13 when she first took the contraceptive pill, was subjected to these acts over a period of years.

In sentencing Glover, Judge Carr emphasized the gravity of his crimes, describing the abuse as “long-term and systematic.” He condemned Glover as an “opportunist paedophile,” highlighting the devastating impact on the victim’s life. The judge stated that her courage in speaking out was remarkable, especially given the detailed nature of her testimony. The court heard that her life had been profoundly affected by the abuse, and she would carry the scars for the rest of her life. Glover showed no visible remorse during the sentencing hearing.

As part of his punishment, Glover was sentenced to 22 years in prison, with an additional year on licence. He is also required to sign the sex offenders register for life and will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least two-thirds of his sentence. Judge Carr concluded with a stark warning, expressing doubt that it would ever be safe for Glover to be released, stating, “But I find it difficult to ever envisage a time when it will be safe for you to be released.” The court’s decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing concern for public safety in Cornwall.
