SCOTT FORREST SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR RAPE IN EAST KILBRIDE
Scott Forrest, a man with a military background, has been handed a life sentence after being convicted of raping a 77-year-old woman in East Kilbride.
The heinous incident took place on July 17, 2020, when Forrest forcibly entered the elderly woman's home and subjected her to a brutal and degrading sexual assault.
During the assault, Forrest reportedly taunted the victim, telling her, "You are loving it," a comment that added to the trauma inflicted upon her.
Following the attack, the woman was left in a state of distress, sobbing and bleeding from her injuries.
Recognizing the severity of the crime, she later made her way to a police station to report the assault, providing authorities with crucial evidence that led to Forrest's arrest and subsequent trial.
Throughout the court proceedings, Forrest's defense team argued that he was innocent of the charges.
However, the presiding judge, Graham Buchanan, found the evidence compelling and convicted Forrest of what was described as shocking depravity against a vulnerable elderly lady.
As a result, Forrest was sentenced to an Order for Lifelong Restriction, meaning he will serve a minimum of six years and three months before being eligible for parole.
In addition to the prison sentence, Forrest was ordered to remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the public.
The judge also acknowledged Forrest’s prior convictions, emphasizing that his release would only be considered if the Parole Board determines that his release would not pose a danger to society.
During the sentencing hearing, Forrest appeared via video link from an undisclosed location.
He was represented by QC Fred Mackintosh, who maintained that Forrest continued to assert his innocence despite the conviction.
The court's decision underscores the seriousness with which the justice system treats crimes of this nature, especially when committed against vulnerable individuals in the community of East Kilbride.
