SANJEEV MITTAL FROM EDGBASTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN BIRMINGHAM
In May 2018, a disturbing case of child sexual abuse emerged involving Sanjeev Mittal, a private tutor based in Edgbaston, Birmingham.Mittal, who operated under the name JS Home Tutors, was convicted of molesting young girls during private lessons, prompting urgent warnings to parents across the area.
Mittal’s victims were two young girls, aged just eight and ten, who had been enrolled in his tutoring sessions to prepare for their 11-Plus examinations.
The abuse took place at his residence on Selwyn Road in Edgbaston, where he had invited the children for study sessions.
Shockingly, one of the girls was also sexually assaulted at her own home while her mother was in another room nearby, highlighting the disturbing breach of trust and safety.
The case came to light after the NSPCC raised concerns with the police on November 24, 2016.
An eight-year-old girl disclosed that Mittal had inappropriately touched her during their two-hour study sessions at his home.
The girl described how Mittal, aged 49 at the time, had molested her, which led to a police investigation.
Mittal, who held a Master’s degree in mathematics and charged £50 per hour for his tutoring services, was immediately scrutinized by law enforcement.
Following the initial report, authorities from the Child Abuse Team launched a thorough investigation.
During this process, another mother came forward, revealing that her daughter, aged between ten and twelve at the time, had been subjected to similar abuse over a period of two years.
The second girl recounted that Mittal had touched her legs and, on at least one occasion, attempted to put his hand down the waistband of her trousers, further confirming the pattern of misconduct.
Sanjeev Mittal was arrested on November 26, 2016, and was subsequently re-arrested on June 19, 2017, as additional allegations surfaced.
Throughout the proceedings, Mittal denied the accusations, claiming that the girls had fabricated the stories and suggesting that one mother harbored a grudge against him.
Despite his denials, the evidence against him was compelling.
In the end, Mittal was found guilty of nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
His crimes led to a five-year prison sentence, marking a significant victory for justice and a stark warning to those who abuse positions of trust.
The case has left a lasting impact on the community in Edgbaston and serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and safeguarding children from exploitation.
