MAN JAILED FOR NON-RECENT RAPE OF A CHILD
Law enforcement officers have commended the courage of a man who came forward to report being sexually assaulted as a child, leading to the imprisonment of his attacker nearly 20 years after the abuse occurred.
Authorities received a report in 2020 concerning allegations against Jerome Blackburn that dated back to 2008.
On Tuesday, 20 January, Blackburn, aged 33, was sentenced to prison.
An investigation revealed that Blackburn, from Edgbaston, had committed multiple assaults on a young boy, who was six years old at the time and known to him.
The adult man, now in his twenties, openly shared his experience with police, prompting specialist officers to conduct detailed inquiries.
Blackburn was arrested and charged, though he denied the accusations during questioning.
Following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, Blackburn was convicted in December of two counts of child rape and two counts of sexual assault, all involving a victim under 13.
On the same day as his sentencing, Blackburn received a seven-year prison term and was ordered to remain on the sex offenders register for life.
