SCARBOROUGH SEX OFFENDER SAMUEL THOMPSON CONVICTED FOR MULTIPLE BREACHES IN YORK
In a significant development in the ongoing efforts to monitor convicted sex offenders, Samuel Richard Thompson, a resident of Scarborough, has been found guilty of violating multiple conditions set forth to prevent reoffending.The breaches, totaling ten in number, were admitted by Thompson during a court hearing held at Harrogate Magistrates Court on Friday, February 19.
Thompson, aged 26 and residing on Falsgrave Road in Scarborough, faced charges related to five violations of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and five breaches of the Sex Offender Notification requirements.
These orders were originally imposed by York Crown Court in April 2018, following Thompson’s conviction for causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
As part of his sentence, he was given a 24-month suspended prison term, which meant he was required to adhere to strict conditions aimed at monitoring his online activity and ensuring he did not reoffend.
During the court proceedings, Thompson admitted to deleting several social media applications from his mobile device, including Kik, Tinder, and Whisper.
He also confessed to removing two chat histories on WhatsApp that contained sexually explicit conversations with unidentified females.
These actions were considered violations of the monitoring orders, which mandated that he maintain transparency regarding his online presence.
Furthermore, Thompson failed to notify authorities within three days about new profiles and usernames on various platforms, including Snapchat, the No Mad gaming platform, OnlyFans, and the Whisper and Kik social and dating apps.
His failure to report these changes was another breach of the conditions designed to keep track of his online activities and prevent contact with potential victims.
As a result of these breaches, Thompson has been remanded in custody.
His sentencing is scheduled to take place at York Crown Court on March 12, where the court will determine the appropriate penalties for his violations.
The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in ensuring compliance among sex offenders and highlights the importance of strict monitoring to protect the community from potential harm.
