DRUNK MAN ATTACKS PARTNER IN LINDLEY PUB CAR PARK AFTER REFUSED SERVICE
A drunken man named Samuel Boyle, aged 28, attacked his partner in the car park of the Bay Horse pub in Lindley after they were refused more alcohol.Boyle claimed he tried to prevent her from driving off by catching her foot as she attempted to leave in her vehicle.
He expressed remorse, stating he does not condone violence against women but had turned to alcohol due to the recent death of his grandfather.
Boyle pleaded guilty to assault by beating at Kirklees Magistrates' Court.
The prosecution, led by Jill Seddon, stated that on December 13 Boyle and his partner drank heavily at the pub, consuming lager, sambuca, and Jack Daniels.
The landlady, Philippa Bean, decided not to serve them anymore due to their intoxication, which led to an argument.
Boyle's partner said she was sitting in the driver's seat looking for cigarettes when he approached her, raised his leg, and kicked her in the eye.
She described him having a bad temper but said she had never seen him act this way before and felt she did not deserve to be assaulted.
The victim initially withdrew her support for the prosecution, but the evidence from the landlady and CCTV footage supported the case.
Boyle, who is unemployed, later called her to find out she had gone to the hospital, and acknowledged he was so drunk that he couldn't remember much, although he was aware she was injured.
Mitigating lawyer Ian Whiteley described Boyle as 'deeply apologetic,' explaining that Boyle's recent grandfather's death affected him and that he started drinking heavily.
The court sentenced Boyle to a community order, including 20 rehabilitation activity days and 100 hours of unpaid work, and ordered him to pay £85 in court costs and a victim surcharge.
