JOINER ACCUSED OF ATTACKING EX THEN TRYING TO HIT HER DAD WITH A HAMMER
A joiner named Jack Keen allegedly grabbed a hammer from his car and attempted to strike his former partner's father during a confrontation, as revealed in court. The incident occurred at the residence of Keen's ex-partner in Quarmby on December 28.
Prosecutor Natalie Chapman stated that the 21-year-old entered the property without permission and struck her in the head while she was in bed.
She added that the victim's father confronted Keen, who then allegedly tried to hit him with a key held between his fingers.
When he failed to strike him with the key, Keen reportedly took out a hammer from his car, which he uses for work, and attempted to attack the man with it.
Keen denied the assault charges, asserting that while he argued with the complainant, no physical assault occurred.
He claimed that when her father got involved, he attacked him, and also admitted to smashing his own car windows with the hammer but denied making threats.
Keen pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault by beating, using threatening words or behavior to cause fear of unlawful violence, and possession of an offensive weapon in public.
His trial is scheduled for April 3 at Huddersfield court.
In the meantime, he is banned from contacting or visiting his ex's home or four witnesses involved in the case.
