KENT HOSPITAL NURSE JAILED FOR RAPE OF PROSTITUTE
A 35-year-old healthcare worker employed at Medway Maritime Hospital in Kent has received a six-year prison sentence after being convicted of raping a young woman. The assault took place in 2002, when the victim was only 15 years old, and during the attack, Abdelrahman threatened her with a gun held to her head.
Although he denied the charges, claiming he did not associate with prostitutes, the jury returned a verdict of guilty on the charge of rape by an 11-1 majority following a deliberation of around three and a half hours.
Court proceedings revealed that Abdelrahman was a nursing assistant who previously worked as a paramedic in Kuwait.
The victim, who is now 18, explained that she turned to prostitution to support her drug problems and described the frightening event in which Abdelrahman dragged her into an abandoned industrial area, pressed a metal object to her head, and assaulted her.
The judge condemned Abdelrahman, stating, “Rape is an unforgivable crime.
You have been found guilty beyond doubt based on the evidence.
Regardless of your reasons, you chose to commit this act.” Abdelrahman’s wife appeared visibly upset when the verdict was announced.
