DEVON CARE HOME ABUSE COURTS CONVICT THIRTEEN STAFF MEMBERS
Thirteen people, including staff members and Jolyon Marshall’s wife, were convicted after multiple trials at Bristol Crown Court for creating a culture of systemic and organised abuse at Vielstone and Gatooma care homes for adults with learning disabilities.
Residents were routinely punished by being held in rooms without food, heating, or a toilet, often overnight, during 2010 and 2011.
Jolyon Marshall, the manager, was jailed for 28 months for conspiracy to falsely imprison residents and perverting the course of justice.
Other staff, including Samantha Honey, faced various convictions, with some receiving suspended sentences, conditional discharges, or being found not guilty.
The court highlighted the cruelty and unacceptable treatment inflicted upon vulnerable residents, with Judge William Hart condemning the actions.
