MAN JAILED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF A WOMAN
A man has received a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted of raping and sexually abusing a woman in Devon.Philip Street, aged 59 and residing in Greenaway, Morchard Bishop, appeared before Exeter Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, 1 May.
Prior to this, he was found guilty in a March 2026 trial of two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault.
Additionally, Street was convicted on two counts that involved multiple incidents, representing other occasions where he assaulted and raped the victim.
The court also ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
During the trial, evidence was presented that Street had abused the woman over a span of two years, using intimidation and fear to maintain control.
The victim recounted resisting his advances, attempting to push him away or tell him no, but he continued despite her protests.
She reported that Street’s larger stature allowed him to persist regardless of her resistance.
Street repeatedly told the victim that their abuse was a secret and that no one would believe her if she told anyone, which facilitated the continuation of his misconduct.
The revelations emerged when the victim confided in her GP, prompting police involvement.
In police interviews, Street initially denied any sexual contact or rape.
However, DNA evidence recovered from the victim’s forensic swabs confirmed his involvement.
Facing this evidence, he claimed that he must have had consensual sex with the victim, but maintained that no assault occurred.
