WREXHAM HARE COURSING GANG LEADER SAM SHEADY SR AND JR AND JASON DAVIS BUSTED NEAR LINCOLNSHIRE
In a significant crackdown on illegal hare coursing activities, authorities have apprehended three individuals linked to a notorious gang operating around Wrexham. The group, consisting of Samuel Percy Jack Malcolm Sheady, known as Sam Sheady Sr, his son Samuel Sheady Jr aka Zane Sheedy, and their associate Jason John Davis, was involved in a disturbing incident that took place near Spalding, Lincolnshire.Samuel Sheady Sr, born on October 19, 1978, and his son Samuel Sheady Jr, born on June 15, 2001, both reside at 15 Bro Gwilym, Cefn Mawr, Wrexham LL14 3NY. Their associate, Jason Davis, born circa 1989, is from Ecton Park Lane Travellers Site, located on Lower Ecton Lane in Great Billing, Northampton NN3 5HQ.
The trio was arrested on November 29, 2022, following a disturbing incident involving the killing of a hare with a dog. The police reported that they observed the group engaging in this illegal activity near Spalding, Lincolnshire. Upon being spotted by law enforcement, the men attempted to evade capture by fleeing the scene in their vehicle. However, their escape was short-lived as they crashed into a fence of a house in the village of Great Hale.
Following the crash, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and made a run across a nearby field. Despite their efforts to escape on foot, they were quickly apprehended by police officers, including a specialized dog unit. During the search, authorities discovered four dogs in the trunk of the abandoned car. One of these dogs was wearing a tracker around its neck, indicating prior monitoring or involvement in illegal activities.
The seized dogs were taken to a local kennel for care and have since been forfeited. They are scheduled to be rehomed, ensuring their safety after the illegal activity. The vehicle used by the suspects was also confiscated by the police as evidence.
Initially, all three men pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, during their appearance at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court, they changed their pleas and were subsequently sentenced last week. The court ordered each of them to pay £15,900 in compensation to cover the costs associated with kennelling the seized dogs. Additionally, they were fined £700 each, and their vehicle, cash, and other equipment were confiscated as part of the penalties.
Specifically, Sheady Sr was instructed to forfeit £200 in cash, while Sheady Jr was ordered to surrender £180. The court also imposed restrictions on their activities, banning all three from being on private land in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire without permission from July until April. The trio has announced their intention to appeal against the sentence, seeking to overturn or modify the penalties imposed by the court.
