PREDATOR CAUGHT IN STING OPERATION SENTENCED FOR CHILD GROOMING
This article reports on Sajid Khan, a 40-year-old man from Galloway Close, Bentilee, who became the subject of a sting operation by paedophile hunters after attempting to engage with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl.During the confrontation, Khan was caught on livestream sending inappropriate messages, including pictures of his pubic area and making comments about shaving.
Although no direct requests for explicit images were made, evidence indicated a calculated grooming behavior until his arrest on June 25, 2024.
Khan initially tried to dismiss the situation with humor and called the hunters 'mate,' but the seriousness of the evidence overwhelmed him.
In police interviews, he refused to comment on the chat logs but later pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communications with a child on November 6, 2024.
The court sentenced him to a 10-month suspended sentence, ordered 100 hours of unpaid work, and imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The judge described Khan’s grooming behavior as slow and deliberate, involving innuendo and sexualized imagery, although he never explicitly asked for sexual content, and noted his repeated discussions about taking a bath and asking about school.
The livestream of the confrontation, broadcast by STOP Stings, drew thousands of viewers, highlighting the increasing efforts to tackle online child grooming.
Khan’s claims of innocence in the police interview were contradicted by the evidence collected, leading to his conviction and ongoing restrictions on his activities.
