PERVERT WHO HAD SEX CHATS WITH 'YOUNG GIRL' BACK IN JAIL
Dean Warren, a man previously imprisoned for engaging with a police decoy pretending to be a young girl, has been jailed again.Last September, the 34-year-old was sentenced to 20 months after attempting to persuade an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl to take part in sexually explicit videos.
The encounter was with a police decoy, and during interrogation, Warren admitted that his actions were motivated by his own sexual pleasure.
Alongside his prison sentence, authorities imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for a decade, which restricts him from using internet devices that can store browsing data unless equipped to do so without deleting activity.
Shortly after release, police visited Warren on May 13 and examined his phone, offering advice on removing certain apps.
They conducted another inspection on June 29, finding a VPN service that allows for anonymous internet browsing something Warren claimed was used to view adult content.
This activity breached the conditions of his SHPO.
Police also discovered he had installed a tool called 'My Cleaner' to eliminate activity traces and had deleted messages sent through WhatsApp and Facebook.
In custody, Warren admitted the VPN was used for viewing adult material and recognised he should have been more careful with the SHPO’s terms.
He pleaded guilty to three violations of the order.
Defence counsel Rob Holt remarked that Warren expected to be re-jailed, given his recall until March.
Holt added that the breaches involved message deletion and internet activity concealment but did not indicate any contact with minors Warren's contacts were only with adults consuming pornography.
Judge Anthony Warner underscored the significance of the SHPO in safeguarding the community, highlighting that breaches so soon after release, involving efforts to erase online evidence and bypass restrictions, are very serious.
The judge warned Warren that persistent violations could lead to re-imprisonment unless he complies fully with the order and engages in appropriate behaviour moving forward.
