ALAISTER CROWLEY CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN BENTILEE
Alaister Crowley, a 59-year-old self-proclaimed internet ‘genius’, was found in possession of a large collection of child abuse images.The incident came to light after Crowley voluntarily handed over his laptop and mobile phone to police officers at his residence in Bentilee on May 9, 2023.
Subsequent forensic analysis of the devices revealed the presence of indecent images of children, with authorities uncovering a disturbing collection stored on a hidden USB stick found in Crowley's car.
The images were classified into different categories based on their severity, with prosecutors revealing that there were a total of 346 images in the most serious Category A, 161 in Category B, and 200 in Category C.
The children depicted ranged in age from as young as two years old to 14, with the majority between the ages of eight and ten.
During court proceedings, Crowley maintained that he had no sexual interest in children.
He claimed that any images found on his devices were downloaded unintentionally from the dark web and insisted that he would delete such material immediately upon discovery.
Despite his assertions, evidence showed that Crowley had accessed certain websites multiple times, and he was unable to convincingly explain why he repeatedly viewed specific files.
Crowley ultimately pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children.
The judge, Robert Smith, sentenced him to 12 months in prison, but the term was suspended for 18 months.
Additionally, Crowley was ordered to participate in a 45-day rehabilitation activity program and complete 120 hours of unpaid community work.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Smith emphasized the depraved nature of Crowley's actions, highlighting the seriousness of the images, some of which depicted children as young as two years old.
The court also mandated that Crowley register as a sex offender for a period of ten years and imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration, aiming to prevent any future harm and protect the community from potential risks.
