NEWPORT MAN SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR BRUTAL RAPE OF WOMAN AND ASSAULT
Saif Hussain, a man convicted of rape, received a nine-year prison sentence after being found guilty of assaulting a woman inside her home in Newport.Court proceedings revealed that Hussain forcibly broke into the victim’s residence while her young daughter was upstairs, and carried out a violent attack.
During the assault, he shouted offensive language and used derogatory remarks such as calling her 'fat and hanging.' He forcibly removed her trousers, pulled her hair, and physically assaulted her, including striking her and inserting his fingers into her vagina and mouth before raping her.
The girl upstairs contacted authorities, resulting in Hussain’s detention.
At sentencing, Hussain unexpectedly dismissed his legal representatives, shouted incoherent statements at the judge, and interrupted the court session, condemning the case as 'a load of f****** bull****.' Although he has prior convictions for battery, violating a restraining order, and harassment, he has no previous sexual offence record.
Judge Fitton described Hussain as 'overbearing, abusive, and violent,' highlighting his lack of remorse and inability to show empathy.
Hussain is to serve at least two-thirds of his nine-year prison term and will be registered as a sex offender indefinitely, along with a ten-year restraining order against him.
Police investigator Emily Harris pointed out the significant and lasting harm caused to the victim and her daughter, emphasizing Hussain’s ongoing suffering and absence of remorse.
