'UK'S WORST TROLL' SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR INTERNET STALKING
Philip Stott, led by Miranda Moore QC, prosecuted Sabine McNeill for multiple counts of stalking causing serious harm or distress (section 4A of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997) and breaching a restraining order (section 5 of the same Act).
Over three years, Ms McNeill, aged 73, targeted four individuals online, falsely accusing them of being involved in a satanic paedophilic cult.
She promulgated these untrue accusations, causing the victims and their families to suffer death threats, move house, and change their children's schooling, among other serious consequences.
Sabine McNeill was convicted on 14 December 2018 after a trial at Southwark Crown Court.
On 10 January 2019, she was sentenced by HHJ Cahill QC to eight years in prison for the stalking offences, with an additional year (to be served consecutively) for breaching the restraining order.
This sentence is believed to be the highest for such offences since the maximum was increased to 10 years in 2017.
