CONTROLLING WHITEHAVEN MAN’S JAIL LETTERS DELAY SENTENCING
A JUDGE has adjourned the sentencing of a controlling Whitehaven man after evidence emerged that he sent letters to his victim from jail via her mother and a neighbour.Ryan Thomas Wilson, 33, was due to be sentenced for his offence at Carlisle Crown Court but the judge ordered a pause after a prosecutor revealed Wilson sent "multiple" letters to the woman through "subterfuge," circumventing prison measures.
The victim was not present in court, but her mother and the police officer in the case were in the gallery.
Wilson had admitted to controlling and coercive behaviour, including tracking the victim's phone, monitoring her movements, excessive contact, and accusing her of cheating.
The charges covered the period between December 1, 2023, and July 1, 2024.
The judge adjourned the case until December 8 to allow the prosecution to review the content of the letters, during which Wilson remains in custody.
He is listed as having no fixed abode.
