EDINBURGH MAN ADMITS TO SEVEN-HOUR RAPE OF SCHOOLGIRL
Beast Ryan Smith raped the 16-year-old and warned her she would be killed if she told the police. She thought about trying to escape but feared what he'd do.
At the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, Smith, 25, admitted abducting and raping the girl at his flat.
Lord Brailsford said it was a "profoundly disturbing" case.
He told Smith: "In your present state, you quite possibly represent a very serious risk to females." The court heard that at the time of the attack, Smith - who has previous convictions for severe assault and wilful fireraising - was on bail pending an assault case.
His rape victim had been in his flat in Whitson, Edinburgh, in February this year with her ex-boyfriend and pals but had left on her own when Smith struck.
He grabbed the girl by the arm and dragged her back to his flat before locking the door and pushing her on to a bed.
Neil Beardmore, prosecuting, said a few minutes later, someone knocked on the door.
Smith put his hands over the victim's mouth and ordered her to be quiet.
Over the next seven hours, Smith switched between making threats to the girl and being apologetic.
He indecently assaulted her and then raped her - despite her desperate efforts to fight him off.
Former supermarket worker Smith eventually allowed her to leave but warned she would be "battered" and "killed" if she informed the police.
The girl went to a friend's house where she broke down and revealed what had happened.
Mr Beardmore said that, as a result of the attack, the victim was unable to complete her prelim exams and left school.
She suffers from nightmares, fears sleeping alone and going out by herself.
Jim Stephenson, defending, said Smith had, in the past, been treated for psychological and drink problems.
He said he wished to apologise to the girl.
Lord Brailsford deferred sentence until next month for reports.
Smith was remanded in custody.
