A 31-year-old man with a previous conviction for sexual offences received a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of raping a woman.
Ryan Rumgay committed the assault at a house in Springfield, Fife, on May 26, 2023.
Despite denying the charges, Rumgay was found guilty earlier this year, which resulted in Judge Thomas Welsh KC requesting a background report prior to sentencing.
Rumgay participated in the sentencing via videolink, with his advocate, Tommy Allan, stating that his client was suffering from mental health issues.
The judge told Rumgay he had no choice but to send him to prison, describing the damage caused as “incalculable.” Furthermore, Rumgay will be on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life as part of his sentence.
