COUNCILLOR ASHLEY SORENSON CHARGED WITH CHILD RAPE AND INDECENT ASSAULT

A serving councillor has been charged with serious sexual offenses.

Ashley Sorenson is facing one charge of raping a girl under the age of 16 and six counts of indecent assault against a girl under the age of 14.

Mr Sorenson, an independent councillor representing the Preesall ward on Wyre Council in Lancashire, made his initial court appearance at Preston Magistrates' Court on 17 July.

The 55-year-old, residing on Woodland Avenue in Thornton, is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing at Preston Crown Court on 14 August.

He has been released on bail while the legal proceedings continue.

Sorenson was elected in 2023 amidst a sweep of independent candidates in Preesall.

Wyre Council declined to comment due to ongoing court cases.
