SCOTS TINDER RAPIST LIED ABOUT CANCER WHILE CONNING WOMEN IN VILE SCAM
Ryan McVeigh, 31, posed on dating sites to lure vulnerable women — then conned them out of tens of thousands of pounds.
He used fake identities, including the name Gary Stephenson and Reece Fletcher, to manipulate women and convinced some that he was dying of cancer.
His main offending involved the sexual, financial, and emotional abuse of two women, where he induced them into believing they’d formed a relationship over the internet.
One woman was conned out of around £38,000 plus loans from relatives; the court heard how he lied about terminal cancer, took her to a hospital, hospice, undertakers, and a cemetery to reinforce his false story.
Prosecutor Michael Macintosh said McVeigh pled guilty to 38 charges involving 17 women, including rapes and multiple frauds.
The High Court in Glasgow remanded him in custody and deferred sentencing until later in the month.
